A distinctive feature of medieval Bosnia are the stone judges’ chairs, each carved from a single block of stone. One of the three most famous was found in Bukovica near Konjic in 1884.
It is a monolithic, carefully carved chair with a massive backrest. The backrest is decorated on the front side with a depiction of the tree of life, on the left side with the figure of a woman wearing a crown, and on the right side with the figure of a man holding a sword.
The triangular top of the backrest features on one side a coat of arms depicting a wheel in a crest, and on the other side an inscription reading: SIE GROB PAVLOVIĆ IVANA.
A replica of the stone judge’s chair was made at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and has been on display at the Konjic Heritage Museum since 2012, while the original stone judge’s chair remains at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
